I recently had the opportunity to be reunited with my father. He is in the Navy stationed in Japan and I am a Marine stationed in Hawaii. We are both currently deployed in the Western Pacific and were able to arrange a flight to get me and another Marine out to my dad’s ship. It was the opportunity of a lifetime having not seen each other in over a year. On August 16th and 17th Corporals Greg Williams and Austin Janutol flew out the the USS George Washington underway in the Pacific Ocean. Corporal Williams’ father, Captain Neil Williams, is stationed aboard the ship. Greg and Austin are both currently deployed to Okinawa Japan with 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines from Kaneohe, Hawaii for 6 months, and Neil is deployed on the ship based out of Yokosuka, Japan. Greg had not seen his father in over a year and was afforded the opportunity to fly out to the ship with his room mate, Austin, via C2 Greyhound “COD.” Greg and Austin were able to spend 2 days on board learning as much as possible and exploring the ship, seeing everything from flight ops on the flight deck to the propeller shaft and the anchor chains. It was an incredible experience to see my dad where he works and just be able to see him not knowing when I’ll get another chance.
